To create the box itself, I used very old, broken palette wood painted violet-black to make a shipping crate. The top was made by weaving old rope I found through the side handles so that in order to reach in to grab an object, I would have to reach my hand through the rope. The letter saying “It’s just good business” represents the way Captain Beckett communicated with his crew and enemies. This quote from him was painted on with black ink onto an ink-stained piece of paper. I ripped the edges and crumpled it multiple times to give it an older and worn look. ...
A Natural History of the Senses - Touch Touch: Kissing "Our lips are deliciously soft and responsive. Their touch sensations are represented by a large part of the brain, and what a boon that is to kissing." -Diane Ackerman After reading the excerpt on Kissing from A Natural History of the Senses , I thought about just how sensitive the lips are. I began to compare sensitive things in life and thought of oranges and tangerines; their individual cells holding the juice are easily breakable and so sensitive just like human lips. I wanted to show the contrast between lips and oranges by capturing both and setting them together in one piece in order to encourage the audience to see the similarities directly.
