Materials: Palette Wood, Balsa Wood, Red Wax, Multiple Inks, Paper, Metal Wire, Metal Straight Pins, Glass Bottles, Painted Tissue Paper, Miniature Skull, Paint, Wood Glue, Hot Glue Measurements: 17.5" x 12" x 9.5" When given this project, I knew immediately I wanted to create my box around the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. To create the box itself, I used very old, broken palette wood painted violet-black to make a shipping crate. The top was made by weaving old rope I found through the side handles so that in order to reach in to grab an object, I would have to reach my hand through the rope. The letter saying “It’s just good business” represents the way Captain Beckett communicated with his crew and enemies. This quote from him was painted on with black ink onto an ink-stained piece of paper. I ripped the edges and crumpled it multiple times to give it an older and worn look. ...
Memento
Materials: Resin, Black Ink, Broken Wine Glass Measurements: 4" x 3" x 1.5" As a very personal, reflective project, I decided to create my memento around the memory of my dad passing away when I was twelve years old. Without going into extremely personal details, I created this piece to reflect struggles both he and I faced around the time of his death. I used resin mixed with black ink to hold the shape of liquid in a wine glass. To do this, I mixed the ink and resin first, and then poured the mixture into a wine glass set on its side. I allowed the large mixture to dry for over 72 hours before breaking the glass off around the memento to reveal the final product. The resin created a shiny surface where I could look back at myself to see my reflection, and the black ink was used to represent the emptiness and darkness I felt when receiving the news of his death. There is a small section on the memento that still has a piece of the wine glass stuck to it, but...
